Physiotherapy focuses on the science of movement and helps people to restore, maintain and maximize their physical strength, function, motion and overall well-being by correcting the underlying physical issues. Our physiotherapists are trained to use primarily hands-on techniques and exercise therapy, with a strong focus on Neurokinetic Therapy to create better movement patterns going forward. We also have two SHIFT Concussion Management certified physiotherapists to rehabilitate concussions and traumatic brain injuries.

Some of our hands-on techniques include: soft tissue release, manual therapy, dry needling, Rock Blades, cupping, Acutonics, and taping, to name a few.

We are also pleased to offer:
K-Laser Therapy- using a high powered, medical grade laser to accelerate healing and reduce pain, stiffness, and swelling
Shockwave Therapy- using low grade, acoustic pulsations to promote regeneration and reparative processes of the bones, tendons and other soft tissues
ImPACT Testing- a computer based test that measures a person's memory and reasoning abilities to help SHIFT practitioners determine the potential effects and impact of head injuries.

PILATES
One on one Pilates sessions consist of postural assessment and clinical Pilates exercises for rehabilitation, maintenance, and physical advancement. Sessions may include use of mats and other small equipment, as well as large equipment such as Reformer and Chair.

Pilates helps align the spinal and pelvic muscles and strengthens the body to regain stability after injury and help prevent future dysfunctions.

***These rehab sessions can be compensated by extended health benefits

Acupuncture is an alternative medicine therapy which uses fine needles inserted into skin to stimulate points along the body's energetic pathways, called meridians. Through this stimulation, the body's systems can be brought into balance. Common benefits of acupuncture include: improving acute and chronic musculoskeletal pain and conditions, promoting digestion, better sleep, reducing stress/anxiety, addiction recovery (such as smoking cessation), boosting immunity, increasing fertility, and inducing labor. Our TCM may use a combination of needling, cupping, moxibusion, or gua sha in a standard Acupuncture session for optimal results.

Our TCM may also employ laser acupuncture as a non-invasive option to patients who are hesitant of traditional needles or simply have a preference for laser. The laser its self is non-thermal and low intensity and produces the same result as needles; making it an excellent alternative.

In addition, Ally offers a therapeutic massage style called Tui Na (pronounced: twee nah). Tui Na uses rhythmic compression techniques along meridians, acupoints, muscles , and nerves to promote positive energy flow and remove blockages.

Carrie is a licensed Osteopathic Practitioner practicing Comprehensive Manual Therapy. She addresses the patient as a whole, looking to restore normal alignment and mobility of all structures including muscles, fascia, joints, organs, blood vessels, lymphatic vessels, and nerves using gentle manipulation. As the great German embryologist Erich Blechschmidt wrote: “The body functions as a whole and it is only as a whole that we should attempt to comprehend it.”

Manual Therapy uniquely addresses the causes which have led to the patient’s dysfunction. When a whole body assessment is performed, the causes which have led to symptoms can be better understood. As many of the body systems as possible are looked at to see what is behind the problem; that system is then treated to improve its health and function and for the whole. The goal of treatment is to see what is decreasing the body's health and vitality and, by increasing the health and function of many systems, the body can take over its autoregulatory processes. Some of the systems assessed and treated include the cardiovascular system to help regulate blood pressure, the lymphatic system, the musculoskeletal system, and the central nervous system.

After rehab goals have been met and client is out of pain/injury, then our trainers/kinesiologists can start to load and exercise individual at a more advanced level. Our trainers are trained in the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) which is a screen of seven essential movements that a person who is functioning well should be able to do pain-free and with relative ease. A tailored program is created, based on the screen score and the individuals weak areas. Our goal is to load optimal functional movements and exercise the individual to their goals whilst staying injury free and making an all round healthy functional body. All equipment used is free weight and high level sports performance equipment. Group training sessions are also available.

***These sessions are GST applicable and not covered under Extended Benefit Plans. There is no need to a physiotherapy assessment unless the patient is in pain or injured.
